The Shell Eco-marathon is an educational project that integrates the sustainable development values with driving a vehicle using the least amount of energy.
The history of the Shell Eco-marathon stretches back over 50 years and originates at Shell’s research lab in Illinois, US, with friendly wagers between fellow scientists to see who could get the most miles per gallon from their vehicles. From these humble origins, where the winner scarcely achieved 21 kilometers per liter, more organized competitions evolved.
Over the years, the fuel economy record has been rapidly improved. Last year Baldos ran 299 km on one liter of gasoline, breaking the world record in carbon dioxide emissions with 6 g/km.
